The Maharashtra Home Department has transferred the investigation into the death threat emails received by former MLA Zeeshan Siddique to the Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) . This move follows the receipt of multiple threatening emails by Siddique, which demanded a ₹10 crore extortion payment and warned of consequences similar to the fate of his father, Baba Siddique, who was murdered in October 2024 .
The emails, purportedly from the notorious ‘D-Company’ associated with Dawood Ibrahim, were sent to Siddique’s Gmail account. One of the messages included an image of a handgun and bullets, intensifying the threat Cyber experts assisting the Bandra police traced the origin of the emails to a server located in Canada, though it’s suspected that a Virtual Private Network (VPN) was used to mask the sender’s true location .
Given the severity of the threats and the backdrop of Baba Siddique’s assassination, the case was escalated to the AEC for a more in-depth investigation. The AEC has previously been involved in probing high-profile cases, including the murder of Baba Siddique, for which 26 individuals have been arrested and charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) .
As the investigation progresses, authorities are exploring all angles to identify and apprehend the individual(s) behind the threatening emails. Enhanced security measures have been implemented for Zeeshan Siddique, and the AEC is conducting a thorough probe to ensure his safety and bring the perpetrators to justice.
