“World Trusts India with Semiconductor Future”
NewsSemicon India 2025 Signals a New Era
New Delhi, September 3, 2025 — At the launch of Semicon India 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a ringing endorsement of India’s semiconductor ambitions, declaring: “The world trusts India, the world believes in India, and the world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India.” This bold assertion underscores India’s fast-evolving role in the global chip industry.
With delegates from over 40 countries in attendance, the event embodied international confidence in India’s semiconductor journey. Modi highlighted that India is shedding its role as a back-end support hub and emerging as a full-stack semiconductor nation, supported by nearly ₹1.5 lakh crore in domestic and global investments.
The Prime Minister shared that the second phase of the India Semiconductor Mission is in the works, including an overhaul of the Design-Linked Incentive scheme to better drive semiconductor growth. Additionally, ten new semiconductor projects worth $18 billion have been announced, signaling India’s scale-up in manufacturing capabilities.
The conference also celebrated India’s first indigenously designed 32-bit ‘Vikram’ chip, presented to the Prime Minister, symbolizing a leap in self-reliant semiconductor innovation. Modi hailed it as proof that India is ready to transition from being merely a service destination to becoming a trusted global hub for chip design and manufacturing.
To nurture technical talent, India also firmed up a collaboration between Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences and UAlbany in the United States. Beginning in January 2026, this graduate-level program will train students in chip fabrication and semiconductor technologies, preparing a workforce capable of feeding India’s growing chip ecosystem.
During his address, Modi flagged India’s strong economic performance, pointing to a 7.8% GDP growth rate in the first quarter of FY2025–26. He said this resilience, even in the face of global uncertainty, strengthens India’s credentials as a reliable partner for global technology supply chains.
Industry leaders echoed the Prime Minister’s optimism. Kai Beckmann, CEO of Merck Electronics, predicted that India could become one of the top five semiconductor nations in the world, citing the company’s new partnership with Tata Electronics to develop high-purity materials and advanced fabrication infrastructure. Meanwhile, John Neuffer, president of the Semiconductor Industry Association, observed that India already accounts for 20% of the world’s semiconductor design workforce. He added that this talent base provides the foundation for India’s ambition to expand into large-scale manufacturing.
The gathering was a reflection of both ambition and global trust. Investors, industry leaders, and policymakers emphasized that India’s entry into the semiconductor race is not just timely but also essential for the stability of global technology supply chains. The vision presented at Semicon India 2025 aligns with India’s broader push toward becoming a global hub for electronics manufacturing and innovation.
Semicon India 2025 marks a pivotal moment in India’s semiconductor narrative. With substantial funding, homegrown innovation, talent development, and international collaborations taking center stage, the country is poised not just to participate but to shape the semiconductor future.
