From Sierra EV to Bolero facelift, India’s SUV boom continues

New Delhi, July 22, 2025 : SUV demand in India is soaring. As a result, automakers are gearing up for several major launches later this year and into early 2026. For example, Tata is reviving the iconic Sierra. In parallel, Mahindra plans to launch its next-generation Bolero—both models drawing strong anticipation. Both are among the most anticipated models.
Tata Motors confirmed it will launch the iconic Tata Sierra in the second half of 2025. The EV version will arrive first, followed by the ICE model in early 2026. The Sierra EV will use Tata’s Gen2 Acti. The ICE variant will ride on the versatile ATLAS platform. It will offer optional 4×4 and come loaded with advanced safety and infotainment features.
Mahindra plans to unveil the new-generation Bolero by 2026. The SUV will use the upcoming New Flexible Architecture (NFA), which supports ICE, hybrid, and EV powertrains. Spy shots reveal a boxy design with flush door handles, LED lighting, vertical tail lamps, and likely three-row seating. Mahindra will debut a bold facelift version based on this platform in August 2025.
One upcoming launch from Mahindra is the Vision S, a rugged concept SUV debuting on August 15, 2025. Seen as a possible electric variant of the Scorpio N, it features a bold SUV stance and off-road tyres. Its design signals Mahindra’s strong EV strategy.
Meanwhile, the Tata Harrier.ev a compact electric crossover built on Tata’s acti.ev Plus platform launched in June 2025. It offers AWD, ADAS features, and a range of 627 km. Mahindra is targeting mid-size EV buyers in the Indian market.
Mahindra has also introduced the XEV 9e, a mid-size electric SUV based on its INGLO platform. Launched in early 2025, it comes with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, offering up to 656 km WLTP range. It now anchors Mahindra’s premium EV lineup.
These five models represent a shift in strategy from legacy models like the Bolero to next-gen EVs and hybrid vehicles. This wave addresses consumer demand across segments, from affordable boxy SUVs to premium electric crossovers. Analysts highlight that both Tata and Mahindra are positioning these launches around key festivals and G20 milestones, ensuring visibility and momentum.
The upcoming Tata Sierra and Mahindra Vision S highlight the shift toward premium mobility. The next-gen Bolero reboot, meanwhile, aims to retain its strong rural and commercial appeal while gradually incorporating modern features and capabilities. At the same time, models like the XEV 9e and Harrier.ev are expected to strengthen Tata Motors’ presence in the EV segment.
