Tamil Nadu MLA kidnapping case.

The Supreme Court has quashed anticipatory bail granted to a Tamil Nadu MLA, Poovai Jaganmoorthy, in a high-profile kidnapping case involving the abduction of a minor tied to a love marriage dispute. The Madras High Court had previously denied his bail, citing his alleged status as the “mastermind” behind the incident, his evasive interrogation responses, and his disruptive court appearance with about 300 supporters . The SC emphasized that his previously clean record didn’t outweigh the serious nature of the accusations, stressing that custodial interrogation is essential for an unimpeded investigation. Justice G. Jayachandran’s remarks warned that such high-profile entanglements—especially those involving public servants and potential abuse of power—must be thoroughly probed under court jurisdiction. The boy was eventually released within hours, but the court’s decision underscores the judiciary’s firm stance on ensuring justice amid allegations of political interference.
