Rs. 90 lakh extortion Iqbal Kaskar.
News
On April 25, 2025, a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court in Mumbai acquitted Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, of extortion charges related to a 2017 case involving a Thane-based builder. The court cited a lack of conclusive evidence to directly link Kaskar to the alleged crime .
The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the builder, who claimed that in 2015, Kaskar’s associates demanded four flats and ₹30 lakh as extortion money for a land development project in Thane. The builder alleged that one flat was forcibly registered in the name of Mumtaz Shaikh, a co-accused who has since passed away .
While Kaskar and two other accused were acquitted, he remains in judicial custody due to a separate money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED’s case is based on the same alleged extortion incident, and the agency continues its investigation into the financial aspects of the crime .
