A Bengaluru man has been arrested for allegedly defrauding a businessman of ₹25 crore through a fake casino investment scheme involving Sri Lanka. The accused, Ramakrishna Rao, a resident of Banashankari, reportedly lured the victim into investing in non-existent casino operations. He claimed that his daughter and son-in-law owned casino tables at Bellagio Colombo, with his son overseeing operations. The victim, after visiting Sri Lanka and being shown staged casino setups, invested ₹3.5 crore personally and facilitated an additional ₹22 crore from associates. The fraud was uncovered when the victim discovered the accused’s previous involvement in a sandalwood drug case.
Additionally, two Bengaluru men were arrested for their involvement in a ‘digital arrest’ scam that defrauded a Hyderabad resident of ₹10.61 crore. The victims were coerced into transferring large sums under the threat of fabricated legal actions. The accused facilitated these transactions through a bank account linked to Tinkan Technologies Pvt Ltd.
These incidents highlight the growing sophistication of financial scams and the importance of vigilance in financial transactions.
