​On April 28, 2025, the Supreme Court of India issued a notice to the Rajasthan High Court in response to a writ petition challenging the commencement of a fresh recruitment process for District Judges. The petition contends that initiating a new recruitment drive without resolving the pending challenge to the 2020 recruitment process is unjustified .​

Earlier this month, the Rajasthan High Court declared that none of the candidates were found suitable for promotion to the cadre of District Judge through the Limited Competitive Examination held in March 2025. This examination aimed to fill 45 vacancies, but the results have left these positions unfilled, adding to the existing judicial vacancies in the state .​

The Supreme Court’s notice indicates that the matter will be examined further, and the Rajasthan High Court has been directed to respond to the petition. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for the recruitment and promotion processes within the state’s judiciary.
