On May 12, 2025, the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association submitted a formal request to the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, seeking a “No Work” period from May 12 to May 16. This appeal was made in light of the “prevailing sensitive and volatile situation in the region,” which includes a sustained blackout and perceived threats from separatist and disruptive forces.
The Association emphasized that the request aims to ensure the safety and security of all stakeholders, including members of the Bar, litigants, and judicial officers. They urged the Chief Justice to consider this measure as a precautionary step to avoid any untoward incidents during this period.
This development follows similar actions by other Bar Associations in the region. For instance, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association also observed a “no work day” in response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. However, this move was met with criticism from the judiciary. Chief Justice Sheel Nagu of the Punjab and Haryana High Court remarked that the entire system would come to a grinding halt if people chose to sit back at home, terming the Bar Association’s call as “unfortunate” amid border tensions.
As of now, there has been no official response from the Rajasthan High Court regarding the Lawyers’ Association’s request. The situation remains dynamic, and further updates are awaited.
