Murshidabad violence 2025.

As of April 21, 2025, there are no reports indicating that the Supreme Court has addressed any petitions related to the recent violence in Murshidabad. However, the Calcutta High Court has been actively involved in matters concerning the unrest.

The Calcutta High Court has expressed serious concern over the violence that erupted during Ram Navami celebrations in Murshidabad. In hearings held in April 2024, the court questioned the efficacy of conducting elections in areas where communal harmony is disrupted. It suggested that if people cannot celebrate festivals peacefully, the Lok Sabha elections in the Baharampur constituency might need to be reconsidered .

Furthermore, the court directed the West Bengal government to submit a detailed report on the incidents and the progress of investigations. The state CID has taken over the probe into the clashes that occurred on April 13 and 17 in Beldanga and Shaktipur areas .

In a separate incident, violence erupted in Murshidabad in April 2025 during protests against the Waqf Amendment Act. The Calcutta High Court responded by ordering the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to restore order in the district .

While the Supreme Court has not yet intervened in these specific matters, the Calcutta High Court’s actions underscore the judiciary’s active role in addressing communal violence and ensuring the maintenance of law and order in West Bengal.
