Mumbai University LLB exam chaos.

Mumbai University (MU) faced significant disruption during its LLB examinations on May 7, 2025, due to the distribution of incorrect question papers. Students expecting the ‘Law of Crimes’ paper under the old syllabus were mistakenly given the ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)’ paper from the new curriculum. This error affected 53 examination centers across the university’s jurisdiction.
Approximately an hour into the exam, the mistake was identified, and the correct papers were dispatched. However, this led to further confusion, as some centers had already distributed the old question paper to regular students, while others withheld papers from repeaters awaiting the correct version. The overlapping content between the old and new syllabi added to the students’ confusion.
This incident is part of a series of administrative lapses at MU. Previously, on April 19, 2025, students at Chembur Karnataka College of Law received the ‘Law of Evidence’ paper from the old syllabus instead of the ‘Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam’ paper under the new curriculum. Despite students flagging the error, they were instructed to continue with the incorrect paper.
University officials have acknowledged these issues and stated that evaluations will consider the papers students actually attempted to ensure fairness. The Board of Examinations is expected to review these incidents and determine appropriate actions to prevent future occurrences.
For students preparing for LLB exams, it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest syllabus and examination patterns. Resources such as the ‘Study Guide LLB 2025 Entrance Examination’ and ‘Arihant LLB 12 Solved Papers’ can be beneficial for thorough preparation.
