Mumbai police illegal flat occupation 2025.

As of April 17, 2025, there are no recent news reports indicating that the Supreme Court of India has ordered the Mumbai Police to vacate two flats they have occupied since 1940. However, a similar case was adjudicated by the Bombay High Court in May 2023.

In that case, the Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra government to return two flats in South Mumbai to their rightful owner, 93-year-old Alice D’souza. These flats, located on the first floor of Ruby Mansion near Metro Cinema, were requisitioned in 1942 under the Defence of India Act during British rule. Although a de-requisition order was issued in 1946, the flats were never returned to the owner, and the legal heirs of the original government allottee continued to occupy them. The court ruled that the requisition remained incomplete as possession was never handed back, and ordered the state to ensure vacant possession is returned to D’souza within eight weeks .

If you have a specific article or source in mind regarding the Supreme Court’s involvement in a similar matter, please provide more details so I can assist you further.
