Mumbai mishap April 2025.

​A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning on Mumbai’s Eastern Freeway near the Orange Gate off-ramp, resulting in two fatalities and four injuries. The incident involved a Maruti Eeco van carrying six passengers from Waghoba Nagar, Kalwa, Thane, en route to Ferry Wharf to purchase fish. The vehicle, reportedly traveling at high speed, lost control and crashed into a divider.​

Victims

  • Deceased: Vinod Rama Vaide (52) and Anita Ramji Jaiswar (60), both residents of Kalwa.
  • Injured: Khushboo Rajbhar (21, a schoolteacher), Geeta Rajbhar (45), Sulekha Vinod Vaide (50), and the driver, Chetan Nandu Patil. Both Sulekha and the driver are reported to be in critical condition.

Legal Action

The Sewree police have booked the driver, Chetan Nandu Patil, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act, including:​Mid-day+2

  • Section 304A (causing death by negligence)
  • Section 279 (rash driving)
  • Section 337 (causing hurt)
  • Section 338 (causing grievous hurt)
  • Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act (dangerous driving)​

A forensic team has examined the crash site, and the van has been seized for inspection by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Post-mortem examinations were conducted at J.J. Hospital, and the bodies have been handed over to the respective families.
