On April 10, 2025, a tragic incident occurred in Mumbai’s Cuffe Parade area, where a horse rider collided with a tempo, leading to the horse’s death. The rider, identified as S Sonu, was reportedly speeding on a busy road, disregarding warnings from motorists to slow down. The collision was captured on video by a passerby, which has been submitted as evidence to the police.
The injured horse was taken to the Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital in Parel but succumbed to its injuries. An FIR has been filed against S Sonu under sections 325 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash riding, and section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1964. Animal rights organization PETA India is actively following up on the case with the authorities.
