The Bombay High Court has sought a response from the police after several mosques filed a petition challenging the removal or restrictions on the use of loudspeakers for the call to prayer (Azaan). The petitioners argued that the loudspeaker use is part of their religious practice and that sudden restrictions violate their constitutional rights. The court has directed the police to clarify the grounds on which action was taken against the mosques and whether due process was followed. The matter has been posted for further hearing after the police file their reply.
