Marathi Actor Sagar Karande Loses ₹61 Lakh in Online Task Fraud.

Popular Marathi actor Sagar Karande recently fell victim to a massive online scam, losing ₹61 lakh (approx. $73,000). The fraudsters approached him through Instagram, offering money in exchange for liking posts — ₹150 per like.

Initially, he earned ₹11,000 by completing simple tasks like liking posts, which helped build trust. The scammers then convinced him to invest more money with the promise of higher returns. After receiving some small payouts, Sagar invested larger amounts. Eventually, he realized it was a scam and reported the incident to the Cyber Crime Cell.

This case highlights a growing trend of “online task frauds” where victims are lured into performing small tasks for money, then manipulated into investing large sums.

In similar cases:

  • In January 2024, actor Rakesh Bedi lost ₹85,000 in a cyber fraud involving a flat sale in Pune.
  • In May 2023, an ad filmmaker from Pune lost ₹96.57 lakh in what was one of the city’s largest online task scams.

These incidents underscore the need to be extremely cautious about offers that promise easy money online. Always verify the authenticity before making any transactions or investments.
