MAN SMUGGLES GOLD WORTH RS 1CR HELD AT AIRPORT.

As of April 7, 2025, there are no reports of a man being arrested for smuggling gold worth ₹1 crore at an airport in India. The most recent incident occurred on February 26, 2025, when a 26-year-old man from Gujarat, Mohammad Wasif Tahirali Shaikh, was apprehended at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. He and his wife were intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) for allegedly concealing 24-karat gold dust in their rectums, valued at ₹1.25 crore, in an attempt to smuggle it into the country. Shaikh was arrested, while his wife was released as she was reportedly unaware of the smuggling activities and was following his instructions.

Another incident took place on November 5, 2024, involving a 28-year-old man from South Mumbai, Abdul Kadir Shaikh. He was arrested for smuggling 1.5 kg of gold worth ₹1.15 crore. Fearing detection, he disposed of the contraband in a dustbin near the baggage belt at Mumbai airport. Based on digital profiling, the AIU intercepted him upon his arrival from Dubai.

Additionally, on January 4, 2025, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) dismantled a gold smuggling operation at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. They arrested five individuals, including two airport employees, and seized 6.3 kg of smuggled gold valued at ₹4.84 crore. The operation was led by Rahul Jadhav, who coordinated the smuggling activities.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to curb gold smuggling activities at airports.
