A court in Thane, Maharashtra, has sentenced Amitkumar alias Avi Amarnath Vishwakarma (40) to life imprisonment for the 2016 murder of his ex-girlfriend. The Sessions Judge, A.N. Sirsikar, convicted Vishwakarma under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and imposed a fine of ₹1,000. The judgment was delivered on May 14, 2025, and made available on May 16 .

The victim, identified as a 35-year-old woman, had ended her relationship with Vishwakarma in 2016. On the day of the incident, Vishwakarma visited her residence in the Dombivli area under the pretext of discussing their relationship. During the conversation, he attacked her with an axe, resulting in her death. The prosecution presented evidence, including witness testimonies and forensic reports, to establish the accused’s guilt. The court found Vishwakarma’s actions to be premeditated and motivated by a desire to rekindle the relationship .
