Lawyer jailed today in UP.

On April 11, 2025, the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow bench sentenced lawyer Ashok Pande to six months in jail for contempt of court. This decision stems from a 2021 incident where Pande appeared in court improperly dressed, without a lawyer’s robe and with his shirt unbuttoned. In addition to the jail term, the court imposed a fine of ₹2,000 and issued a show-cause notice regarding his legal practice, citing his past misconduct and failure to respond to charges.

This case highlights the judiciary’s emphasis on maintaining decorum and professionalism in court proceedings. The Allahabad High Court has previously addressed concerns over lawyers’ attire, especially during virtual hearings, emphasizing that casual appearances are inappropriate and unacceptable.
