Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad was sworn in as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on Monday, May 12, 2025. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Harish Tandon. Justice Shripad, previously serving on the Karnataka High Court, was recommended for transfer by the Supreme Court Collegium, with the central government notifying the transfer on May 1, 2025.
Justice Dixit began his legal career in July 1989, practicing primarily in the High Courts of Karnataka and Madras. He specialized in writ law, election law, and service law, and appeared before various administrative tribunals. Throughout his career, he held several significant positions, including Senior Standing Counsel for the Election Commission of India and Additional Central Government Standing Counsel in 1999. He also represented institutions such as the University Grants Commission (UGC), Competition Commission of India (CCI), and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In 2014, he was appointed Assistant Solicitor General and was elevated to the Karnataka High Court as a judge on February 14, 2018.
Notably, Justice Dixit was part of the bench that delivered the 2022 judgment on the Karnataka hijab ban. He is now the fourth senior-most judge of the Orissa High Court and is scheduled to retire on July 19, 2026. On his first day in office, he is set to share a Division Bench with Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, the third senior-most judge of the court.
