Former Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, has been appointed as a Distinguished Professor at National Law University (NLU) Delhi. This appointment marks a significant development in Indian legal education, bringing one of the country’s most progressive jurists to mentor the next generation of legal minds.

As part of this collaboration, NLU Delhi will establish a dedicated Centre for Constitutional Studies, where Justice Chandrachud will guide pioneering research. The university will also launch the “In the Spirit of Justice: The DYC Distinguished Lecture Series” in July 2025, providing a platform to engage with contemporary legal challenges through his visionary perspective.

Justice Chandrachud’s tenure as Chief Justice of India from November 2022 to November 2024 was noted for landmark judgments on privacy, LGBTQ+ rights, gender justice, digital freedoms, and judicial reforms. His appointment to NLU Delhi is expected to enrich the academic ecosystem and contribute to the university’s mission of building a more just and equitable legal system.
