Judges appointed to Supreme Court of India.

On May 30, 2025, Justices N.V. Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi, and Atul S. Chandurkar were sworn in as judges of the Supreme Court of India. Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai administered the oath at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court premises. With these appointments, the Supreme Court has regained its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.

Born on March 23, 1965, in Ahmedabad, Justice Anjaria hails from a family with a legal background. He began his legal practice at the Gujarat High Court in 1988 and was appointed as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court in 2011, becoming a permanent judge in 2013. He served as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court from February 2024 until his elevation to the Supreme Court.

Born on March 26, 1964, in Jodhpur, Justice Bishnoi enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and practiced at the Rajasthan High Court. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2015. He served as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court from February 2024 until his elevation to the Supreme Court.

Justice Chandurkar began his legal career in Mumbai in 1988 and shifted his practice to Nagpur in 1992. He was appointed as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013. Notably, he authored a pivotal verdict in 2024 regarding the constitutional validity of amendments to the IT Rules allowing a government-appointed unit to flag online content.

Justice Bishnoi took his oath in Hindi, while Justices Anjaria and Chandurkar were administered the oath in English.

These appointments were swiftly processed, with the Supreme Court Collegium recommending their elevation on May 26, 2025, and the President approving the appointments on May 29, 2025.

With these additions, the Supreme Court’s bench strength is at its full capacity of 34 judges. However, a vacancy is anticipated soon with the retirement of Justice Bela M. Trivedi on June 9, 2025.
