In a remarkable achievement, five inmates at Aligarh Jail in Uttar Pradesh have successfully cleared their UP Board exams with a 100% success rate. This accomplishment underscores the transformative power of education within the prison system.
The Inmates and Their Achievements
- Yogesh Pandey (Aligarh): Serving a murder sentence since February 2021, he scored 63.8% in the high school exams.
- Dharmendra Kumar (Firozabad): Incarcerated for a grievous hurt case under IPC 326A since November 2023, he achieved 67% in high school.
- Netrapal Singh (Aligarh): Facing charges under the POCSO Act and rape, he secured 49.4% in the intermediate exams.
- Vishal Kumar (Hathras): Also charged with rape, he attained 55% in the intermediate exams.
- Rajesh Kumar (Hathras): Accused of rape, he achieved 60% in the intermediate exams.
These inmates, aged between 25 and 28, voluntarily enrolled in the UPMSP exams, demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and rehabilitation. Their success is a testament to the positive impact of educational programs in prisons.
The initiative was facilitated by Aligarh Jail authorities, with Senior Superintendent Brijendra Yadav highlighting the significance of this achievement as a “small ray of light” within the prison walls. The success of these inmates not only reflects their dedication but also the effectiveness of educational programs in fostering rehabilitation and hope for a better future.
