Indian Railways fare hike 2025.

Indian Railways has officially introduced a nominal increase in passenger fares, effective July 1, 2025. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Non‑AC Mail/Express trains: fare increased by 1 paisa per kilometre.
  • AC classes: fare increased by 2 paise per kilometre.
  • Ordinary second class (general): no hike for journeys ≤ 500 km; for distances beyond, a small hike of 0.5 paisa per km applies.
  • Suburban trains and monthly season tickets remain unaffected—no extra burden on daily commuters.

This is the first fare hike since the pandemic, aimed at offsetting rising operational costs and boosting revenue expected to generate an additional ₹700–13,000 crore, depending on the route and category.

Commuters traveling long distances (e.g., 1,000 km) can expect to pay approximately ₹10 extra for non‑AC and ₹20 extra for AC travel, with only a few rupees’ difference for general class beyond 500 km.
