Indian court tree planting condition.

In a noteworthy decision, the Rajasthan High Court has mandated that a petitioner plant 21 shady trees within a month as a prerequisite for reconsidering his plea. The petitioner, Sitaram, a 38-year-old resident of Bada Gaon in Dholpur district, had challenged his dismissal from the state’s irrigation department but failed to appear in court. Justice Anoop Dhand issued this directive on April 7, 2025, emphasizing the environmental benefits of such an initiative.

In a separate but similar case, the Rajasthan High Court imposed the condition of planting 21 trees on a workman who sought another opportunity to present evidence in an industrial dispute after previously failing to do so. Justice Dhand highlighted that such actions contribute positively to the environment and benefit future generations.

These decisions reflect the court’s innovative approach to justice, intertwining legal accountability with environmental stewardship.
