India can’t be developed if health , education neglected : Supreme court

The Supreme Court of India recently underscored the critical role of health and education in the nation’s development, stating that neglecting these fundamental sectors would hinder India’s progress. The court emphasized that economic growth alone is not sufficient for true development; rather, a robust healthcare system and quality education are essential to empowering citizens and ensuring equitable advancement. The observations were made while addressing a case related to inadequate public infrastructure in these sectors, highlighting the state’s responsibility to fulfill constitutional obligations under Articles 21 (Right to Life) and 21A (Right to Education). The bench noted that without accessible and affordable healthcare, the well-being of citizens remains compromised, leading to a weaker workforce and higher mortality rates. Similarly, poor education leads to unemployment, lack of innovation, and social disparities, further deepening inequality. The court urged both the central and state governments to increase investment in these sectors, improve public institutions, and ensure that policies prioritize the well-being of citizens over mere economic indicators. The ruling serves as a reminder that sustainable development is not just about GDP growth but also about human capital, social equity, and quality of life.
