Today, India has unveiled a four‑pronged trade‑deal strategy aimed at countering escalating U.S. tariff threats and enhancing its global trade position. The plan includes:
- Strategic diplomacy – intensifying dialogue with the U.S. to de‑escalate trade tensions and secure favorable terms
- Market diversification – proactively expanding exports beyond the U.S. into Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central Asia
- Boosting domestic competitiveness – implementing structural reforms, offering innovation incentives, and improving logistics to strengthen export capacity
- Forging alternative alliances – accelerating FTAs (e.g., India–UK, India–EU, India–Australia) and bolstering new trade corridors, including the IMEC route
India’s four‑pronged strategy—strategic diplomacy with the U.S., diversification into new markets, strengthening domestic competitiveness, and building alternative FTAs and trade corridors—anchors its global trade roadmap at a critical time. Complementing this, India is now actively negotiating new FTAs with the UK, the EU, and Australia, while the ongoing U.S.–India bilateral deal aims to secure reciprocal tariff relief and tariff stability. The flurry of high-tech and pharma exports to G7 countries indicates early signs of success, although tension remains in Canada’s trade performance. India’s approach balances deepening ties with traditional partners and expanding new avenues to future‑proof its trade resilience.
