India’s federal cabinet has approved a sweeping ₹1 trillion (US $11.7 billion) ELI programme aimed at generating around 35 million new jobs from August 2025 to July 2027. Under the plan, first-time workers receive a one-time payout of ₹15,000 (~US $175), and employers get ₹3,000 (~US $35) per new hire who stays on for at least six months. Manufacturing firms will enjoy additional support beyond the core two-year window. While India has been experiencing robust GDP growth, youth unemployment remains a serious concern—with the jobless rate among those aged 15–29 recently recorded at 17.9% in urban areas and 13.7% in rural areas .

In the UK, major overhauls of workers’ rights—including protections from day one, the exclusion of zero-hours contracts, and a statutory right to work from home—have been postponed to 2027 after strong opposition from business groups. However, earlier changes are still proceeding: from April, unions will require just 2% workforce support for formal recognition, a Fair Work Agency will be introduced, and bans on “fire & rehire” plus enhanced paternity and sick pay rights will take effect by October .
