Eknath Shinde&Kunal Kamra controvercy.

The Maharashtra government has informed the Bombay High Court that no punitive measures have been initiated against individuals who shared or re-sang comedian Kunal Kamra’s parody song video. This assurance was provided by public prosecutor Hiten Venegavkar to a bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Makarand Karnik.

The statement was made during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Harshvardhan Navnath Khandekar, who expressed concerns about potential coercive actions by the state against citizens sharing Kamra’s video. Following the government’s assurance, the court disposed of the PIL.

This development comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Kunal Kamra. The comedian had previously approached the Madras High Court, which extended his interim anticipatory bail until April 17, 2025, in connection with an FIR filed against him by the Mumbai Police over his alleged remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
