Pune, July 28, 2025 – In a significant development, the Pune police arrested Pranjal Khewalkar, son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse, under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police detained Khewalkar, husband of NCP(SP) leader Rohini Khadse, during a late-night raid that also led them to arrest six others, including two women.
Police acted on secret information and arrested the suspects after raiding a flat around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday.Authorities reportedly seized 2.7 grams of a cocaine-like substance and 70 grams of “ganja-like” material, both allegedly linked to hookah sessions and recreational drug use.
While confirming the seizure, police emphasized that further forensic testing and legal procedures are underway. Police acted on secret information and arrested the suspects after raiding a flat around 3:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Reacting to the arrest, Eknath Khadse expressed concern and hinted at a possible political conspiracy. “According to me, I knew something like this could happen. If it is indeed a rave party, I will not support him (my son-in-law),” he told reporters. He added, “We expect the police machinery to do their investigation in a transparent manner. “If someone tries to frame him, the authorities must not tolerate it.”
However, Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan of the BJP criticized Khadse’s response, stating sarcastically, “If he knew something like this would happen, then he should have acted earlier.” Mahajan further said there was no point in defending anyone unless proven innocent through proper legal channels.
The Opposition NCP(SP) defended Khewalkar and alleged that political motives may have driven the arrest. Party members have called for an impartial investigation and demanded the police release the forensic reports to ensure transparency. This arrest has added to the political turmoil in Maharashtra, especially given the high-profile family involved. The case is likely to attract further attention as legal proceedings unfold.
