On May 30, 2025, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Chintan Raghuvanshi, a Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on charges of bribery. Raghuvanshi, a 2013-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, allegedly demanded a ₹5 crore bribe from Ratikanta Rout, a businessman involved in stone mining and hospital management, to provide relief in an ongoing ED investigation.

The CBI conducted a trap operation after Rout filed a complaint on May 28, 2025. During the operation, Raghuvanshi was caught accepting ₹20 lakh, the first installment of the bribe. An intermediary named Bhaghti, who facilitated the transaction, was also arrested.

Following their arrest, both Raghuvanshi and Bhaghti were produced before a special CBI court, which remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody. The ED has stated that it will initiate disciplinary proceedings against Raghuvanshi.

This incident has raised concerns about corruption within enforcement agencies and underscores the need for stringent oversight mechanisms.
