Amid criticism over Maharashtra’s rising debt, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday defended the government’s borrowing policy, stating that loans are a global tool for building public infrastructure. Speaking to reporters, he said that countries worldwide use borrowings to fund long-term capital projects like roads, railways, and bridges. Fadnavis asserted that Maharashtra’s borrowings are within permissible limits and are being used for productive investments that will boost growth and generate employment.
