Çelebi security clearance.
News REUTER, THE ECONOMIC TIMES, indiatimes
On May 16, 2025, Turkey-based ground handling firm Çelebi Aviation filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the Indian government’s revocation of its security clearance, which was issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) citing national security concerns. Çelebi contends that the government’s justification lacks specific details and violates principles of natural justice, arguing that the decision threatens nearly 3,800 jobs and investor confidence.
The revocation has led major airports in Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad to terminate their contracts with Çelebi. The Adani Group, operating Mumbai and Ahmedabad airports, also ended its partnership with the company. Authorities have assured a seamless transition of operations and continuity for current employees affected by the change.
This development comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, with Turkey’s perceived support for Pakistan influencing public sentiment in India. The Indian government’s decision reflects broader backlash against Turkey, including public boycott campaigns and suspension of academic ties.
The Delhi High Court is expected to hear Çelebi’s petition soon. The company seeks to restore its clearance to resume normal business functions in the country.
