A 44-year-old man named Ranjit Kumar Singh, alias Munna, was arrested by Mumbai’s Malad Police today for a series of burglaries in which he disguised himself as a woman. Over the past three months, Singh committed at least eight break-ins across areas including Borivli, Kandivali, Malad West, and Dindoshi. His most recent burglary occurred on March 17, when he stole cash and ornaments worth ₹4.5 lakh from a house near NL School .
Singh employed a unique modus operandi: he would conduct reconnaissance during the day and, after committing the thefts at night, change into a burqa or salwar suit near railway tracks to blend in with the crowd and evade detection by police and CCTV cameras .
Following his arrest, police recovered a machine used to melt stolen gold and silver before selling them. Investigations revealed that Singh had invested his ill-gotten wealth by purchasing a ₹6 lakh house in Malwani and paying ₹10 lakh to acquire a plot of land in Bihar .
Singh, a native of Bihar, had been residing in Kharodi village, Malad, and had managed to evade arrest despite his involvement in multiple crimes. His capture followed a thorough analysis of CCTV footage and neighborhood inquiries conducted by a police team under the supervision of DCP Anand Bhoite and other senior officers .
