BMC notice to Vile Parle hotel.
News
As of today, April 25, 2025, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued notices to Hotel Ram Krishna in Vile Parle East, adjacent to the recently demolished Digambar Jain Temple. The notices, served under Section 53(1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, cite unauthorized construction and demand a response within 30 days.
The BMC’s action follows inspections prompted by allegations from the Jain temple trustees regarding illegal alterations to the hotel structure. The hotel, established in 1977, reportedly owns several flats in the Neminath Co-operative Housing Society, which have been converted into guest rooms for commercial use. Additionally, a makeshift brick-and-mortar structure housing hotel staff was constructed near the temple site. These modifications were reportedly made without the necessary approvals, leading to the BMC’s intervention.
The demolition of the Jain temple on April 16, 2025, has sparked significant controversy. The Maharashtra State Minority Commission has directed the Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate potential corruption related to the demolition, and the BMC has faced backlash from the Jain community, leading to the transfer of a ward officer involved in the incident.
The BMC has emphasized that the hotel owners must provide documentation proving the legality of the alterations within the stipulated 30-day period. Failure to do so may result in demolition of the unauthorized structures.
