The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is rolling out “theft‑proof” dustbins designed to be fixed permanently on-site, making removal nearly impossible. This design, initially trialed after repeated thefts around 2006–07, features:

• Twin dustbins attached back‑to‑back with a secure lock
• Anchored firmly to the ground using metal rods
• A pivot mechanism allowing BMC workers to unlock and tilt the bins for emptying

This stone—or more precisely, steel-mounted—solution was revived in the aftermath of over 50 % of earlier plastic bins vanishing, often dismantled and sold as scrap.
