On April 21, 2025, the Centre for Advanced Studies in International Humanitarian Law (CASH) at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, hosted an expert lecture on “Aviation Law and Governance.” The session was led by Advocate Syed Tamjeed Ahamad, a specialist in aviation law, who explored the intersection of aviation law and criminal liability, with a particular focus on money-laundering offenses.
Mr. Ahamad provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of aviation law principles, international regulations, and the roles of various regulatory bodies. He elaborated on the “eight freedoms” of aviation law and discussed the concept of pilot’s discretion, as well as the varying liabilities of airlines across different airport zones. Drawing from his experience, he shared case illustrations from his roles as counsel and amicus curiae, offering practical insights into the field.
The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which Mr. Ahamad addressed questions on related areas such as antitrust and insolvency law, highlighting their relevance to aviation law. The event was attended by RGNUL’s Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jai Shankar Singh, Registrar Dr. Ivneet Walia, and CASH faculty convenors Dr. Sukhwinder Kaur Virk and Mr. Saurabh Sharma.
