Advocate license cancellation.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has annulled the enrollment of Advocate Sajad Ahmad Shah, a resident of Srinagar, after discovering that he had practiced law for nearly 16 years using a fake and forged LL.B degree. Shah was initially enrolled with the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir in 2010. However, an inquiry into the authenticity of his academic credentials revealed that the law degree he submitted at the time of enrollment was not genuine.
Following these findings, the High Court’s Admission and Enrollment Committee recommended the cancellation of Shah’s license on April 29, 2025. The decision was formally notified on May 13, 2025, by the Registrar General (Officiating), MK Sharma. The notification states that his certificate of enrollment stands revoked with immediate effect due to the submission of a “fake and forged LL.B degree.” His name has been removed from the Roll of Advocates maintained by the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir. The High Court has circulated the cancellation order to all relevant judicial and administrative bodies, including the Bar Council of India, the Supreme Court Registry, and judicial officers across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
This action underscores the importance of verifying academic credentials in the legal profession to maintain the integrity of the judiciary.
