Location: New Delhi | Date: Saturday, November 1, 2025
In a major overhaul aimed at enhancing accessibility and efficiency, the UIDAI is implementing new rules effective November 1, 2025, which will let Aadhaar-holders update key demographic details online — eliminating many visits to physical centres.

Key Changes at a Glance
- From November 1, residents can update details such as name, address, date of birth and mobile number via the “myAadhaar” portal, provided the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar is active.
- Biometric updates (fingerprint, iris scan, photograph) will still require a visit to an enrolment centre.
- The verification process will be more automated — using existing government records like PAN, passport, driving licence or ration card to validate submissions, reducing manual intervention.
- New fee structure kicks in:
- Demographic update: ₹75 when done separately.
- Biometric update: ₹125 for most age groups.
- Demographic document-only updates via the online portal are free until June 14, 2026; then ₹75 at a centre.
Why this matters
These changes reflect a clear push by the government to digitise and simplify one of India’s largest identity-management systems. By reducing physical visits, paperwork and waiting lines, the move aims to make Aadhaar updates more user-friendly, especially for people in remote areas or those lacking time. It also strengthens the official linkage between Aadhaar and other government systems (like PAN) for smoother services.
Important Deadlines & Implications
- Individuals must ensure their mobile number linked to Aadhaar is up-to-date to access the online update service.
- UIDAI emphasises that linking of Aadhaar with PAN remains mandatory by December 31, 2025. Failing to link may lead to deactivation of the PAN from January 1, 2026.
- While demographic updates are largely online, biometric updates remain physical — so those needing biometric changes should plan accordingly.
What You Should Do Now
- Log in to the myAadhaar portal and verify your current mobile number is linked and working.
- If you have changes to make (address, name, mobile number, date of birth), initiate them via the portal from November 1 onwards.
- If you need a biometric update (photo, fingerprint, iris), schedule a centre visit ahead of possible rushes.
- Check your PAN–Aadhaar linkage status today to avoid missing the deadline.
- Save the Update Request Number (URN) for any submission and track its progress online.
