Officials at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on July 7, 2025, arrested Mohammed Rohan Shaikh, an Ahmedabad resident arriving from Bangkok, after Customs Zone‑III officials recovered 9.66 kg of hydroponic marijuana stashed in his checked luggage. The seized cannabis, valued at approximately ₹9.66 crore on the illicit market, was discovered during a thorough baggage inspection based on intelligence inputs. Shaikh has been booked under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

This interception was part of a trio of recent seizures made by Mumbai Customs. Alongside the drug bust:

• A second traveler arriving from Bangkok was found to be carrying rare wildlife, including live and deceased raccoons, fox squirrels, and iguanas. The passenger now faces charges under the Customs Act, 1962, and Wildlife Protection Act, 1972
• Separate from the Bangkok flights, two passengers arriving from Dubai were arrested after officers discovered 1.65 kg of 24 K gold (worth about ₹1.49 crore) concealed on their persons and in body cavities .

In total, these coordinated arrests led to four individuals being detained, and illicit goods—including drugs, gold, and wildlife, worth over ₹11 crore were seized.
