India US trade deal deadlock.

Trade negotiations remain deadlocked with just eight days to go before reciprocal tariffs are reinstated on July 8, 2025. India is firmly refusing to lower tariffs on sensitive agricultural items like maize, soybeans, dairy, apples, and nuts — demands strongly pressed by the U.S. 🇺🇸

Despite the impasse, the White House calls the deal “very close,” referring to India as a “strategic ally.” U.S. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt says they’re finalizing key agreements . However, India remains wary of political and economic consequences for farmers, resisting agricultural concessions .

Both nations are reportedly exploring a “mini-deal” or modular framework that could yield immediate tariff relief, with broader negotiations to follow by September–October — aligning with the timeline set by leaders Modi and Trump.
