₹10.65 crore FEMA penalty.

The Supreme Court on June 30, 2025 dismissed Lalit Modi’s writ petition asking the BCCI to indemnify him for a ₹10.65 crore FEMA penalty imposed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) . Justices P. S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan emphasized that the BCCI is not a “State” under Article 12 of the Constitution, meaning writ jurisdiction under Article 226 is inapplicable . The court noted that Modi remains free to pursue civil remedies instead .

Previously, in December 2024, the Bombay High Court had already rejected his plea, calling it “frivolous and wholly misconceived,” and ordered Modi to pay a ₹1 lakh cost to Tata Memorial Hospital .
