Bodh Gaya temple case.

On June 30, 2025, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a writ petition filed by former Maharashtra Minister and advocate Sulekha Kumbhare. The petition sought to transfer management of the Mahabodhi Mahavihara (Bodh Gaya, Bihar) entirely to Buddhists, challenging the current structure under the Bodh Gaya Temple Act, 1949 .The temple is managed by a nine‑member committee (four Buddhists, four Hindus, plus the district collector), as defined by the 1949 Act .The Supreme Court bench (Chief Justice MM Sundresh and Justice K Vinod Chandran) declined the petition under Article 32 but granted leave to approach the High Court .
