Monthly alimony for wife and autistic child.

The Jharkhand High Court has directed the husband, employed at JP Morgan in Mumbai, to pay enhanced monthly alimony following confirmation—via an RTI application—that his annual income exceeds ₹21 lakhs (net ₹18.5 lakhs in FY 2021–22 and ₹21 lakhs in FY 2022–23) . After dissolving the marriage, a Family Court had previously ordered permanent alimony of ₹12 lakhs to the wife and ₹8,000 as monthly maintenance for their autistic son. On appeal, the High Court held these amounts insufficient given the husband’s current earnings (₹2.31 lakhs per month after deductions), the lifelong medical and care needs of the autistic child, and the husband’s ownership of property in Bhopal, Patna, and Mumbai.

Consequently, the Court has increased the monthly support to ₹50,000 for the mother and ₹40,000 for the son, effective July 2025, with a 5% escalation every two years . In essence, the Court aligned alimony with the husband’s disclosed income and the special care needs of his disabled child, ensuring both financial support and periodic escalation.
