The Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) granted its approval on June 19, 2025, allowing Adani Power Ltd to formally acquire Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL). The company’s creditors had already given the green light to the acquisition in February 2024, and Adani Power received a Letter of Intent from the resolution professional on February 24, 2025, following the Committee of Creditors’ endorsement.

VIPL, formerly a subsidiary of Reliance Power (Anil Ambani), operates a 600 MW (2×300 MW) thermal power plant in Butibori, Nagpur. This move significantly enhances Adani Power’s capacity in the thermal energy space and aligns with its broader strategy to consolidate and expand power generation assets. Following NCLT clearance, the acquisition will proceed, subject to any additional regulatory requirements.
