On June 7, 2025, the Andhra Pradesh High Court invalidated the state’s implementation of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for appointing teachers in grant-in-aid schools. Justice Gannamaneni Ramakrishna Prasad ruled that introducing such a selection method without legislative backing is unconstitutional. The court emphasized that while the objective of conducting CBTs might be commendable, any new system for teacher recruitment must be supported by appropriate legislation or subordinate legislation, not merely by executive orders or instructions.
This decision directly affects the recruitment process in aided schools across Andhra Pradesh. The state government had previously issued G.O.Ms.No.43 to implement the CBT-based selection, which the court has now struck down. As a result, the government is expected to revise its recruitment procedures to align with the court’s directives.
In response to the court’s earlier directives, the Andhra Pradesh government released the Aided Schools Recruitment 2024 notification, detailing the revised procedures for teacher appointments in these institutions.
This ruling underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional and legal frameworks when implementing changes in public recruitment processes.
