A senior official from Mumbai’s Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (K West Division) was arrested on May 21, 2025, by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe. The officer, identified as Vikas Korade, allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant seeking action against a housing society committee. The complainant had previously raised concerns about illegal activities within the society, leading to his removal as treasurer. Korade purportedly requested ₹4 lakh to initiate action against the committee, with ₹2 lakh as the first installment. The complainant reported the matter to the ACB, resulting in a trap and Korade’s subsequent arrest .

Following his arrest, Korade was produced before a special ACB court, which granted him bail. The court’s decision was based on the defense’s argument that the arrest was illegal, citing that Korade was detained beyond the legally permissible 24-hour period without being informed of the grounds for his arrest .
