Apple’s manufacturing partner, Foxconn, is poised to commence iPhone shipments from its new facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, as early as June 2025. This development marks a significant step in Apple’s strategy to diversify its production beyond China and bolster its manufacturing footprint in India.
Production Ramp-Up: Foxconn plans to produce up to 25–30 million iPhones in India in 2025, more than doubling its output from the previous year. The Bengaluru plant, currently in the final stages of testing, is expected to initiate commercial shipments soon.
Strategic Importance: The new facility is crucial for Foxconn to maintain a significant share of iPhone production and to benefit from India’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Broader Expansion: Beyond iPhones, Foxconn has inaugurated a new unit in Hyderabad to manufacture AirPods, reflecting Apple’s expanding product portfolio in India.
Semiconductor Ventures: In addition to smartphone manufacturing, Foxconn, in collaboration with HCL Group, has received approval to establish a $435 million semiconductor assembly and test facility in Uttar Pradesh. This plant, expected to be operational by 2027, will enhance India’s capabilities in chip manufacturing.
These initiatives align with Apple’s broader goal to reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturing amid global trade tensions and to capitalize on India’s growing manufacturing ecosystem.
