News THE TIMES OF INDIA
In today’s news, Uttar Pradesh police have filed a chargesheet against Nikita Sharma and her family members in connection with the alleged suicide of her husband, Manav Sharma, a 30-year-old techie from Mumbai. The chargesheet, submitted to a local court in Agra, accuses Nikita, her father Nripendra Sharma, mother Poonam Sharma, and sister Nishu Sharma of abetment to suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Manav, who worked as a manager at an IT firm in Mumbai, married Nikita in January 2024. The couple returned to Agra on February 23, 2025. According to the chargesheet, Manav was allegedly threatened by Nikita’s family when he went to drop her at her parents’ residence. The following morning, he was found dead at his home. Prior to his death, Manav recorded a seven-minute video accusing his wife of infidelity and expressing emotional distress, stating, “Please, someone should talk about men. They become very lonely.”
The investigation includes statements from Manav’s family and other witnesses. His father, Narendra Sharma, a retired Indian Air Force officer, alleged that Nikita had expressed a desire to live with her boyfriend and threatened Manav with false charges. Nikita, however, refuted these claims, stating that Manav struggled with alcohol addiction and had previously attempted self-harm.
This case has sparked discussions about the mental health pressures faced by men and the complexities of marital relationships. The court proceedings are ongoing, and further developments are awaited.
