In a significant development today, former Karnataka Minister and mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy has been sentenced to seven years in prison by a special CBI court in Hyderabad. Reddy, along with his brother-in-law Srinivas Reddy, assistant Mahfooz Ali Khan, and the state’s then director of mines and geology, were convicted in connection with illegal mining activities in the Obulapuram region. The court also imposed a fine of ₹15 crore on the convicts .
