In a recent Supreme Court hearing, the Delhi authorities were questioned over their failure to demolish unauthorized structures in affluent colonies, raising concerns about selective enforcement of demolition drives. The court sought explanations from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and the Delhi Police regarding their inaction in these areas.

The petitioners highlighted that while demolition drives were actively pursued in lower-income neighborhoods, similar illegal constructions in wealthier areas remained untouched. This disparity has led to allegations of bias and selective enforcement by the authorities. The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Delhi government, the DDA, and the MCD, seeking their responses on the matter.

This development follows the Supreme Court’s previous stance against “bulldozer justice,” emphasizing that demolitions should not be carried out arbitrarily or without due process, regardless of the accused’s status. The court’s latest intervention underscores its commitment to ensuring equal application of the law across all sections of society.
